On January 25, Steelcase hosted the American Society of Architectural Illustrators Jury in Dallas for the annual AIP competition now in it's 29th year. Over the course of nine hours, the jury poured over the 344 entries vying for one of the coveted awards including the prestigious Hugh Ferriss Memorial Prize. Witnessing the
process firsthand was an enlightening experience. Artist, curator and photographer brought decades of experience to the table which led to in depth discussions on how each juror interpreted the artwork through their own eyes. At the end of the day, the jury had selected all 64 illustrations that will make up the annual exhibition to debut during the annual conference coming to Dallas in October.
After a day of being indoors, the board members were joined by longtime member Sam
Ringman on Sunday to explore a few locations around Dallas as potential tour venues for the upcoming conference in October before heading off to their respective airports for the journey home.
Any organization relies on its members for ideas, as well as its dues, not to mention the serious commitment of an officer's position to help run our programs. Whether you just equate ASAI with the competition, and perhaps have forgotten the other benefits of web exposure, business discounts, and networking
at one's disposal, there are many options available to an ASAI member. The architectural artist does not have many avenues for linking his work to a professional organization, and ASAI has been nothing but very professional in its operations and outreach from Day One.
On January 28, 2014, ASAI held it's first member webinar. Member, Ben Althoff of Polycount Studios, LLC., presented his expertise with using Vray from Chaos Group, showing the viewers pass techniques for faster
better quality images.
You can view the recorded webinar on the ASAI webiste.
Future webinars will also listed on the website. If you are interested in being a presenter, please contact HQ.
