A Year in Review
2015 was an active year for the American Society of Architectural Illustrators. Careful changes have been made with
the help of our members and advisory. In making the changes our hope for the Society in 2016 is to make it better, stronger and more inclusive.
We want to include more illustrators using all sorts of media and attract new members representing a broader physical geography. That inclusiveness will deliver the promise that the ASAI is preeminent. We want to include more students of design and illustration: they are the future and they have enormous energy and
imagination. We have also seen in recent conferences how members from allied organizations can broaden our worlds and influence our thinking.
We now have a new brand that hails to the formative first 30 years and embraces renewed energy to reflect our strengths and our inclusiveness. It's clean, smart and flexible and will roll with the punches.
We have added prize money to recognize the very best in our annual competition, exhibition and
catalog. The next step is to build an endowment to keep it going and make the annual competition better, more competitive and more representative of the larger world of architectural illustration.
We are working to improve the website while maintaining the incredible record of work from the past 30 years. A challenge has been to keep the interest of our long-standing members: they have years of experience and technique to share for the benefit of us all. We are looking
to find a way to make it more affordable to continue their membership as well as recognize their contributions to the culture and art of illustration. Importantly the collegiality of our members deserves special consideration in anything we do.
Membership Dues
To continue to build in a sustainable, balanced way the Society membership dues have been increased for 2016. The increase is modest and the most recent increase was in 2003. It will
go toward covering the costs of organizing the conference, catalog design and production, website, advertising and administration. Much of the work of the Society is on a volunteer basis.
A plan is already in place that builds on the work of recent years for an exciting Architecture in Perspective 31 in Boston. We are confident that the initiatives will bear fruit for a better organization.
Thanks to all of you for your ongoing interest,
collegiality and for sharing your incredible work.
